I did it…

July 23, 2008

… I couldn’t help it.
These pants were just so damn sexy, and made my butt look AMAZING

You do NOT want to know how much they were.

I will post a picture of my butt when I get them back.  The alterations were included.  So they should be, for the price!!!

A great food blog

July 23, 2008

I don’t actually know Amanda, who keeps the most phenomenal food blog I’ve read, but I feel as though I do.  She’s a good friend of my friend Erin.

This blog is amazing.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.  Once you read it, you’ll go back.  I promise.

Check it out.

8 Days of Vegan…

July 23, 2008

So I’m up to the 8th day of my veganism.  Originally, this was just supposed to be a trial: to add some vegan recipes to my repertoire and hopefully move further along the toward the Vegan side of the Vegan-Carnivore Continuum.  But after 8 days of only eating Vegan food, I feel great.  Energetic, healthy, really, really good.  I’m spending less at the grocery store, while eating more, and my skin, seriously, has NEVER been this clear.

So I think I’m going to keep going, at least for a while.  The very real environmental benefits of eating a plant-based diet are significant, and the personal benefits- which, really, are what are either going to keep me on the wagon or send me flying off it- are also pretty substantial.

That being said, though, I don’t think I’ll ever transition to being a full vegan.  If I go to someone’s house, and they’ve made me a nice dinner with meat in it, it would be completely wasteful, not to mention counterproductive, not to eat it.  The energy is already spent, no use letting it go to waste.

Oh, and occasionally, if I want to cook something REALLY nice with animal products, I think that’s ok too.  Ultimately, I’m doing this to attempt to lower my carbon footprint, so the occasional cake is hardly going to send my carbon ratings off the charts.

It’s cold!

July 23, 2008

Sydney should not be this cold!  It really shouldn’t.

Now I like the cold as the next former-pacific-northwest-US-resident; however, we are just not equipped to deal with the cold in this fair land.  There’s a reason it’s the SUNBURNT country.

On the upside, hopefully there won’t be too many people at the markets at lunch…

Vegan pancakes

July 23, 2008

Ok, so Saturday morning, all I wanted were pancakes.  They’re such a Saturday thing.  So I decided to try this recipe:

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 g self-rising flour
  • 10 g white sugar
  • 9 g custard powder
  • 475 ml soy milk

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar and custard powder. Mix in the soy milk with a whisk so there are no lumps.
  2. Heat a griddle over medium heat, and coat with nonstick cooking spray. Spoon batter onto the surface, and cook until bubbles begin to form on the surface. Flip with a spatula and cook on the other side until golden.

The end product was fantastic: yummy, vegan pancakes, that were light and fluffy and not at all rubbery.

By the way, Bonsoy is the greatest invention.  EVER.

My Vegan trial…

July 18, 2008

So, I decided to try to eat Vegan for a few weeks, just to see what it’s like.  So far, so good.  Dhal may actually be my favourite thing ever.  I’ve gone 3 days so far, and I’m really enjoying it.

Tomorrow, I’m going to try to make these Vegan pancakes.

Whoa…

July 18, 2008

… it’s been a few days.  Busy week at work and all that have prevented me from blogging.

But I promise to be super-active for the rest of the day.

Yoga

July 8, 2008

My wonderful yoga instructor Alison is back!  Hooray, hooray.  So I’m back after missing two weeks.  And I’m starting to think I’d like to do teacher training.  You have to practise for at least a year first, so I won’t be able to do it til October next year, but I’m excited by the prospect.

Sadly, though, after missing two weeks, I’m struggling with Bakasana.

But last night’s class was fantastic.  There were only three of us there, and all are regulars, so she did a bit of a tricky class.  It was amazing.

Five yummy things I’ve cooked recently

July 8, 2008

1. Sourdough. You already know all about that.

2. Lime and Lady Grey Tea biscuits. They are tasty, buttery morsels of tangy goodness.  Absolutely to-die-for.  If I do say so myself.  Rosie liked them so much, she went home and made her own.

3. Chicken Soup Real chicken soup.  With a whole chicken.  Oh, it was so, so yummy… it made about 10 litres, and I froze a heap of it, which is still keeping me in lunches.

4. Chicken and Sundried tomato ravioli. Baked chicken, mixed with basil and sundried tomato, wrapped in fresh ravioli.  Oh, it was blissful.  Truly, truly blissful.

5. REAL Chai. Chai made on the stove, boiled, with proper Chai spices and the best soy milk known to man.  Oh, it was good.  It was so, so good.
